What’s the Difference Between Virgin Hair, Remy Hair and Non-Remy Hair?

“Virgin Hair
Remy Hair
Non-Remy Hair”

People get confused when they are faced with different types of hair materials when shopping for wigs to buy. There are three main types of hair materials on the market – Virgin Hair, Remy Hair, and Non-Remy Hair.

All of these three types are human hair, but Virgin Hair is the best, Remy Hair the next and Non-Remy Hair the last. But do you know what criteria set them apart? What makes Virgin Hair the best? Follow up and let me tell you.

Let’s make it short – the biggest differnce between these three hair types is the hair source. Virgin Hair refers to hair that is collected from one donor, and the hair cuticles are intact and run in the same direction. Remy Hair means hair is collected from different donors, and the hair can be slightly processed, like curled or anything, but the cuticles are also intact and runs in the same direction which makes the hair smooth. To the Non-Remy Hair, it is collected from multiple sources, such as the floor of temples, salons and random suppliers, so the cuticles are not running in the same direction, which makes it easily get tangled.

The resource of Remy Hair and Non-Remy Hair is very similar, they are both from differnet donors and the hair is usually from the floor of temples, salons and some random suppliers, so the hair has both the roots and the tips mixed up and the cuticles are not running in the same direction, which makes it easily get tangled. The biggest difference between Remy Hair and Non-Remy Hair is that the follicles of Remy hair are removed which makes it resemble Virgin Hair on apperance, while the Non-remy Hair is not, which makes it easy to tell.

Now, let’s talk in details.

What’s Virgin Hair?

Virgin hair is the best product among all the hair extensions, it is more precious and expensive. Why? Virgin hair is in its original state completely and has not been chemically treated in any way. It must have the following strict standards to define as virgin hair: not been permed, dyed, colored, bleached, and chemically processed in any way. It can last no less than a year with proper care and maintenance, and you can take care of your virgin hair extensions just like your own natural hair.

What’s Remy Hair?

Remy hair is considered to be the second high-quality of human hair, it is collected in a method similar to Non-Remy Hair. By getting removed the follicles and receiving some chemical treatment, Remy Hair achieves that smooth touch and glossy look, while in its nature, Remy Hair is still very fragile and in no way can last longer as Virgin Hair does. Normally, Remy hair tends to last for about 6-10 months.

What’s Non-Remy Hair?

Non Remy hair is human hair that is collected from multiple sources, such as the floor of temples, salons and random suppliers. This makes Non-Remy hair have both the roots and the tips mixed up, so that all the hairs are not running in the same direction, causing inevitable shedding, tangling and matting problems. To mask these problems, hair suppliers will use harsh chemicals to completely strip the cuticles and then apply a large amount of silicone to make the hair look soft and smooth. Though the hair initially looks soft and smooth, it starts matting and tangling after 1-2 months wearing.

Conclusion: What’s the Difference Between Virgin Hair, Remy Hair and Non-Remy Hair?

All of Virgin hair, Remy hair and Non-Remy hair are human hair. You can tell their differences from the following aspects.

Price: Virgin hair is the best among all the three hair materials, it is more precious and hard to get. So needless to say, Virgin Hair is the most expensive. Hair extensions made with Virgin Hair have the best look and the most long-lasting traits. Remy Hair is in no way on the same level as Virgin Hair, it in its best only“looks” like Virgin Hair, “looks” glossy and smooth, while after you take it home, you will find, it’s in no way worthy of the money, get tangled frequently and lost its shiny so soon. Among them, Non-Remy hair is the cheapest.

Collection methods: Virgin hair is from a single donor, directly cut from one’s long hair. Remy hair and Non-Remy Hair are collected in a similar method, both from multiple suppliers and the hair quality is low, as some is from the temple floor, some from salon.

Natural look:  Virgin hair just look like your own hair, very natural and healthy, you can dye it and curl it free, while Remy Hair has a short “smooth” look and would lose its shiny effect in a short time. Non-remy hair extensions have random follicles on the ends, easy to tell. Since the process of removing follicles also costs, to save the cost, that step is saved on Non-Remy Hair. Non-Remy Hair will shed, tangle and matte very quickly.

Maintenance: Virgin hair is very easy to maintain, special care is not needed. Taking care of Remy hair and Non-Remy hair can be a task.

Longevity: Virgin hair can last up to a year with proper care and maintenance. Remy hair can last 6-10 months, while non-Remy hair typically lasts about several months with daily wear.

Versatile: As for Virgin hair, you can try out various colors and styles. While colors like #613 and some other light shades are not recommended for both Remy Hair and Non-Remy hair.

So, while considering which one to buy, it’s up to your budget and your real requirements.
